Poseidon Srl:cutting-edge technologies to study the marine ecosystem
Geotechnical services, geophysical campaigns, surveys: we survey the seabed for international public and private organizations that aim to address current climate challenges, conduct environmental studies, or build offshore structures.
To achieve this, we rely on our extensive experience, highly qualified personnel, and the most advanced technologies.
Why “Poseidon”? Because of the evident reference to the ancient god of the sea, but also due to its similarity to Posidonia oceanica, a true underwater green lung.
Thanks to their high capacity to absorb CO₂, Posidonia meadows have long been the focus of investment, research, and conservation programs. The high-precision technologies developed by Poseidon make it possible to study the seabed and map seagrasses as part of projects related to climate change, alternative energies, and ecological transition.

A sampling systemfor all types of sediment:the new Jumbo VibroCorer
Seabed investigation requires advanced equipment. From our long experience with corers on fine sediments comes Jumbo VibroCorer, the new frontier of marine coring. Thanks to its unique and innovative features, Jumbo VibroCorer can reach even the coarsest sediments, enabling increasingly accurate and reliable sampling.
A complete service – from equipment to on-board personnel – for anyone operating in the offshore construction, renewable energy, Oil & Gas, and international marine geoscience sectors.

Mod. 001 / Jumbo VibroCorer
The evolution of coring in numbers
Jumbo VibroCorer has all the numbers to perform even under challenging conditions:
250m
maximum depth
34°
seabed slope autolevelling capability
200kN
extraction force applied by the 4 stabilizers
With Jumbo VibroCorer you maximize coring quality, control, and operability
Precise, versatile, and safe, Jumbo VibroCorer reaches where other machines stop, overcoming the main challenges of offshore coring. How? Through careful design and cutting-edge technological systems.
Where three different equipment were previously required, now only one is needed. Jumbo VibroCorer can operate in three different modes: gravity, drive and vibration. This allows operators to select the most suitable mode for specific conditions to obtain superior-quality samples.
Unlike most common corers, Jumbo VibroCorer allows real-time monitoring of coring depth, enabling it to stop at the desired depth and provide immediate feedback, both on board and onshore. The dedicated software transmits graphical data on instrument performance (penetration force, inclinometer, frequency, altimeter, penetration), which are essential for initial interpretations.
Jumbo VibroCorer can also operate on vessels without dynamic positioning, thus eliminating costs related to this technology. Once penetration is completed, its self-recovery system brings the vibrocorer’s barrel back to its original position. This solution reduces the risk of bending barrels during extraction and, consequently, the need to compensate for environmental forces.
Jumbo VibroCorer can operate even in less favorable weather conditions. Thanks to its patented tilting system, it can be rotated into a horizontal position. This design lowers its center of gravity when near the deck compared to a traditional vertical vibrocorer.
In addition to ensuring greater versatility, the tilting system designed and manufactured by Poseidon S.r.l. simplifies the liner extrusion operations (diameter 110 mm) and enhances on-board safety by eliminating the most hazardous manual tasks.
Enhanced features comparedto standard vibrocorers
01
Weight: 9,400kg
Jumbo VibroCorer is heavier than standard vibrocorers, enabling it to penetrate sediment more effectively and increasing the sampling success rate.
The core barrel length is 6 m. In the unlikely event that the barrel becomes stuck in the seabed, it can be released quickly through the dedicated clamp system.
02
Independent retractable stabilizers
The four hydraulically operated stabilizers, independently controlled, allow sampling on steep seabeds and can be equipped with enlarged pads in case of soils with limited strength and bearing capacity.
Each stabilizer is fitted with a transducer to indicate its position relative to the structure, while the inclinometer allows the base to be leveled.
03
Adjustable vibrating motor
The unidirectional hydraulic vibrator operates with variable Force (0–54kN) and Frequency (0–2200rpm). The vibrating motor is adjustable and driven by a chain system that enhances thrust.
Penetration into sediment can occur using only the chain system (with up to 100kN thrust) or in combination with vibration. The force can be pre-set based on Cone Penetration Test (CPT) data, if available.
Sampling equipment comparison
Choosing the most suitable sampling equipment depends on many factors.
Comparing some of the main solutions available on the market helps to understand the potential and possible applications of Jumbo VibroCorer.

A new companywith over 70 years of marine experience
Poseidon S.r.l. was founded in 2025 from the partnership between two long-standing companies in the sector: Carmacoring S.r.l., an expert in high-resolution sampling, and Subsea Fenix S.r.l., specialized in underwater robotics and engineering.
A long-standing partnership, just like the extensive experience of the professionals who founded Poseidon Srl: Massimo Magagnoli, Ivan Malavolti, and Stefano Mancini.
Adding up all their years of activity, the total exceeds half a century. That’s why we like to say that we have the youth of a new company and the maturity of an established one.
And the experience continues today, every day. The partners are always active on board alongside other operators — a pragmatic approach that complements managerial activity, ensuring maximum attention and perfect coordination of all operations.
Because the best ideas come from daily contact with complexity, equipment, and people. It is precisely from this hands-on integration of our specializations that we developed innovative seabed survey solutions such as the Jumbo VibroCorer®.
A technical and operational synergy that brings together complementary areas of expertise: precision coring to obtain representative offshore seabed samples; mechanical and engineering expertise related to vibrocorer construction and use; and the electronic know-how required for underwater and ROV services.
